Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals Kolkata inaugurated the Apollo Genomics Institute (AGI), its newest facility. Apollo’s commitment to advance personalized medicine and genetic healthcare is demonstrated by this noteworthy milestone.

After being founded in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Chennai, the Apollo Genomics Institute has now expanded to Kolkata. It attempts to address the region’s growing need for early disease detection and prevention as well as the rising prevalence of genetic abnormalities.

The launch saw the presence of distinguished speakers like Dr. Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director of the Apollo Hospitals Group, Dr. Mahesh Kumar Goenka, Director of Gastrosciences and Medical Education, Dr. Rohit Bhojaraj, Vice President of Children, Genomics, and Clinical Operations, Mr. Rana Dasgupta, CEO-Eastern Region, Apollo Hospitals Group, Dr. Surinder Singh Bhatia, Director Medical Services – Eastern Region and Dr. Saswati Mukhopadhyay, Consultant Clinical Geneticist at Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata.

A symbolic lamp-lighting ceremony to usher in a new era in genetic medicine was also part of the event.

The Genomics Institute’s expansion is a vital step in the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which are still a major public health concern in India and around the world.

Twenty percent of the world’s population lives in India. That being said, its contribution to the world genetic database is a mere 0.2%. To compile and safeguard the genomic data produced, Apollo Genomic Network intends to introduce a genomic variant database. In addition, the Pan-Apollo Genomics Network is actively engaged in research and academia. Weekly case discussions, journal clubs, peer-to-peer education, monthly grand rounds, and healthcare seminar series are all organized by AGI.

Preventive healthcare is a national priority for Apollo because non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for 65 percent of mortality in India and remain one of the top causes of death and misery. The ultimate goal of the Apollo Genomics Institute is to revolutionize Indian healthcare by making individualized, high-precision medical care accessible.
