Dilemma of An Artist Explored in Director Arunava Khasnobis’s Bengali Film Bisorgo

Director Arunava Khasnobis’s Bengali film Bisorgo was shown at the 24th Kolkata International Film Festival. A press conference was organized before the screening which was attended by the director, Debranjan Nag, Prasun Gain, Manali Chakraborty, Biswajit Ghosh and others.

The film maker made his debut in 2010 with the film Bhalobasa Off Route E which released in 2012. The director is back with his second film Bisorgo after a span of eight long years.

Bisorgo is a story with five characters namely Iswar, Darshan, Satya, Biswa and Shanti. Biswa is a frustrated artist. He wants to end his life by committing suicide and he goes around the streets of the city trying to fulfil this aim. Darshan is a candy seller. He tries to convince Biswa not to commit suicide. Iswar is depressed of his creation and instigates the artists to commit suicide. Shanti is deputed by Iswar and she provides peace to the people. The film is basically an interaction between these individuals.

“Whether I am an artist or not is a question which came in my mind a few years ago. That is how the story of this film emerged. I have to tried to make the film in a different way” said the director.

Manali said “We were not given a script but we all relied on the director and trusted and believed him. I play Shanti Dey in the film. As my name suggests, I give peace to the people who interact with me. The film is different from the ones that you normally see. I can guarantee that the film will give you a different film viewing experience”.

Whether pure art form exists in the world has been questioned in the film, mentioned Debranjan Nag.

The producer of the film is Premasis Mukherjee. Arunava Khasnobis is behind the story, screenplay, cinematography, editing and music of the film.
