“Every Artist Is A Poet”- Photographer Turned Entrepreneur Rahul Basak

Mr. Rahul Basak is the co-founder of two popular startups from Kolkata: “Amar Canvas” and “My Canvas Talk”, and he is currently holding the designation of CEO and Chief Editor of the respective companies. Apart from this, he is the host of a podcast series called “Pep Talks With Rahul”. He is also a famous public speaker and has been invited by various national and international organizations like TEDx (3-Times), IIT, NIT, Josh Talk, etc.

However, not many people know much about his hobby of photography. Not only is it his hobby, but he also holds the famous international medal from Adobe’s Behance Coin from India (2016). He was featured as the most talented artist by MTV Nescafe Lab India (2017).

He works in a very rare genre of photography where he makes the documentation of various human psychological states such as phobia, sadness, loneliness, etc.

“I believe in creating a photograph rather than taking it. And I believe when a creator understands the difference he gradually turns into an artist. When I work, I more likely take the inspiration or better to say try to create a replica of my inner soul” he says.

Recently he signed for his first book which is going to be a coffee table book. In the book, there will be a section where we also discover his poetic side. According to him, “I believe every artist is a poet accordingly.”

His works of photography were published in various national journals including The Telegraph, Inside Photography, The Cognigent Tree, etc. He was invited as a judge for various photographic contests including one of the biggest photography competitions “Dream Award”, Siliguri.

He is two times the winner from the Fine Arts Academy of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and also from different institutions Kalyani Government Engineering College, etc. He was also certified as a city merit artist by PrafullaDahanukar Art Foundation. He was invited by Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College Photography Club to talk about photography. Recently an international organization made a short documentary on the life and inspiration of Rahul Basak, featuring his ownself.

He learned Astro Photography from Sky Watchers Association of North Bengal. He is a member of the organization and practices with them. His works are mostly divided into projects like “Solitude”, “Another Definition of Home”. “I am not two but three”, “Sky you are not black but blue”. And according to him, he is currently planning to work on a project called “Red Lies” where he will be focusing on the deepest lies of human beings.

“The artwork of the artist lives inside of us, as an artist, we just need to understand the soul and have to replace it as a portrait,” says Basak.
