David Roy, Secretary BCC, Bishop Paritosh Canning, BCC President, Bishop of Calcutta,   Mr. Biswarup Mondal, Treasurer BCC graced the press conference for the peace rally by Bengal Christian Council on 20th January 2023.

Without a doubt, the church makes a wide range of significant contributions to nation-building. Its work in education, universal access to healthcare with a focus on maternal and child health, service to the disabled, assistance to the poor and homeless, women’s and youth emancipation, and human resource development is unquestionably praiseworthy.

In order to spread the light of education among the masses—both men and women—Christian missionaries initially founded their educational institutions in the country’s towns and remote rural areas more than 200 years ago. The Adivasis and Tribals, as well as other underprivileged groups, were also supported and educated.

Numerous of those schools continue to serve all societal groups and have produced a large number of exceptionally successful alumni who are employed both in India and abroad. They received their education in the revered halls of those illustrious institutions of higher learning that impart high standards of knowledge and discipline along with unwavering moral and ethical principles.

Today, literacy rates are far higher than the national average, especially in South and North East India, because of the church’s dedicated work in the fields of education, printing, and publication.

The Church serves all segments of this nation’s population without regard to caste, creed, or religion and has laid the groundwork for a wider and more profound fraternity based on love, justice, forgiveness, and solidarity.

The Bishop of Calcutta and the Bengal Christian Council are working tirelessly to reach out to all segments of society under the direction and leadership of the Rt. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning. A special focus is being placed on women’s empowerment by promoting self-sufficiency, skill development, and rehabilitation, especially for trafficking victims and survivors.

With the peace rally, peace and harmony will be promoted and people will be made aware of the contribution of the Church in India.
