A deeply spiritual and unique observance of Rakhi Bandhan unfolded at the expansive goshala premises of the Ramakrishna Mission Adyapeeth, merging the sacred bond of protection with profound reverence for divine creation. On this holy occasion of Rakhi Purnima, all the sacred cows (Goumatas) and Nandi Maharaj residing in the shelter were honored with traditional rakhis, ritualistic aarti, and devoted service.

In Sanatana Dharma, the cow holds a divine stature, revered as the embodiment of all celestial deities. Highlighting this sacred truth, the ancient scripture verse—“Sarvadevamayi hi gouh sarvadevamayo harih”—was invoked, signifying that the cow encapsulates all deities just as Lord Hari encompasses the divine universe. To propagate this timeless philosophy across all strata of society, the morning festivities commenced with applying sacred sandalwood and vermilion tilak to every resident of the goshala. A deeply reverent aarti was performed with lit lamps, coupled with heartfelt prayers for their long life, robust health, and well-being. Following these rituals, they were lovingly fed their favorite, nutrient-rich foods.

This exceptional initiative was spearheaded by dedicated cow-servant Sri Pinaki Ganguly, alongside his committed companions and well-wishers, notably Sri Satyajit Behera, Sri Souvik Majumdar, and other volunteers who meticulously managed the sacred undertaking. Echoing the core philosophy of the Ramakrishna Mission, head of the goshala Ashok Ghosh emphasized that true service stems from perceiving the divine spirit within all living beings.

Concluding the celebrations, the main organizer, Sri Pinaki Ganguly, issued a heartfelt appeal to people from all walks of life. He urged society to extend daily care, according to individual capacity, to these silent, helpless, yet divine animals surrounding us. Even a small daily offering of a handful of grass or a piece of bread can help accumulate immense spiritual merit.

This remarkable event successfully bridged spiritual tradition with practical compassion, inspiring the community to honor the divine in every living creature.
