World-Stroke-Day

The Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals in Kolkata raise awareness about brain strokes and how to revive such patients in honor of World Stroke Day. People who have high blood pressure, cholesterol, or blood sugar are always more likely to experience a brain stroke. Brain strokes used to occur in 1 out of 6 people, but now they happen in 1 out of 4. Bad lifestyle and eating habits are primarily to blame for this sudden change in figure.

A press conference was organized to throw light on brain strokes, how to revive patients suffering such strokes, and other related matters.

It is extremely important to begin treatment within 4.5 hours following a stroke since after that point, irreparable damage could result in total paralysis or even death. Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals Kolkata has a stroke team consisting of an emergency physician, neurologist, neuro-radiologist, and cath-lab technician who can promptly attend to a patient admitted to the hospital because the golden hour rule is particularly important for stroke patients. A “Code Stroke” announcement is made when stroke symptoms are present, alerting the team that the patient needs immediate attention. The patient is immediately taken for a CT scan, followed by any necessary medical or clinical care.

There are two types of brain stroke, according to Dr. Amitabha Ghosh, Director of the Department of Neurology at Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals in Kolkata. “Ischaemic stroke, which occurs when the blood supply to a portion of the brain is reduced, causing the brain tissue in that area to become dysfunctional. The other type of stroke is a hemorrhagic stroke, in which there is a sudden hemorrhage into the ventricles or tissues of the brain or both. As a result of the brain cells’ lack of blood flow in both situations, harm is done to them. However, there is currently good care accessible. Permanent brain cell damage can be avoided if treatment is started within a set window of time. A stroke can occur in one out of every four people at any moment in their lives and, if left untreated, can have irreversible effects” said Dr. Ghosh.

The symptoms of brain stroke are loss of balance, headache or dizziness, blurred vision, drooping of one side of the face, arm, or leg, weakness, and difficulty in speaking.

By taking the patients on time to the hospitals and nursing homes, people with brain strokes can be saved.
