17th Kolkata PhoolMela 2020 Organized in Kolkata; Theme of Prokriti Ache Phool er Majhe
The 17th Kolkata PhoolMela 2020 was organized at Eden Gardens, Kolkata from 27th to 29th January.
The flower festival was organized by Urban Recreation Forestry Division, Directorate of Forests, Govt of West Bengal. The theme of PhoolMela was Prokriti Ache Phool er Majhe. The main purpose was to involve the youngsters in conserving Nature. This will help in inculcating conservation values among the new generation.
The prime attraction was flower, foliage and fruit exhibition.
The special attraction include exhibition by Government, Non-Government and different organisations. Cultural program by students of schools and colleges also took place.
Arghya Dutta from Amul Star Voice of India and Komolika Chakraborty from Sa Re Ga Ma Pa of Zee Bangla, Parijat band, flute by Ranjan Jana were some of the musical performances at the flower festival.
Sand painting and live food counters were also present for the patrons.
The competitions organized include floral rangoli, photography, fancy dress, quiz, poster drawing competition, fragrance competition and use of plastic and rubber for decoration with flower and foliage.
The children of Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy, Ahana Foundation, Durbar Mahila Swamanaya Samiti performed at the cultural program. Inclusion of these people was also another major attraction of PhoolMela this year.
37 schools, 15 colleges, 10 NGOs and 15 institutions participated in the PhoolMela. The participation was huge this time and the authorities hoped that this trend will continue in the future too.
