Brisk walking for a span of thirty minutes can keep you healthy and keep you away from getting affected by diseases like Diabetes. To commemorate World Diabetes Day, a Diabetes Walkathon titled Haato Bangla Haato has been organized by GD Hospital and Diabetes Institute (GDHDI) to increase awareness about the disease and also to make people aware that walking is beneficial in preventing diabetes.

A press meet was organized which was attended by Dr Sujoy Majumdar, HOD, Department of Endocrinology, GDHDI, Professor Dr Dipto De, HOD, Dental Department, GDHDI, Dr Siddhartha Ghosh, HOD, Department of Ophthalmology, Dr Arindam Chanda (COO), Musrefa Hossain, CEO, GD Hospital & Diabetic Institute and others.

Diabetes is a silent killer disease. Many people do not know that they have diabetes until it is too late. India has become the Diabetes Capital of the world. Sedentary lifestyle, bad food habits all have led to the development of Diabetes. However with a little exercise, good food habits and regular checkups of blood sugar levels, one can keep oneself healthy and also stay away from Diabetes.

The walkathon will be flagged off by eminent Tollywood stars namely Prosenjit Chatterjee and Abir Chatterjee on 18th November at 9 am. Free diabetes screening on Diabetes check-up on wheels will roam around the city.

This initiative of the hospital has been supported in previous years by personalities like Sourav ganguly, Parambrata Chatterjee, Dev, Rituparna Sengupta, Sambaran Banerjee and others.

The same walkathon will also be conducted in South Dinajpur and Murshidabad on 24th and 25th November.
