Bengali Film Hiralal Screened at KIFF 2018; A Peek Into Hiralal Sen’s Life
Directed by Arun Roy, Bengali film Hiralal was screened in Competition on Indian Language’s Films. A press meet was organized in the presence of the cast, director Arun Roy, producer Indrajit Roy and others just before the screening of the film.
The film Hiralal shows the life and works of the individual who has played such a pivotal role in the development of Indian movies. Dadasaheb Phalke is considered as the Father of Indian Cinema. With the help of this film, the director wants to show that Hiralal Sen’s contribution to the Indian movies.
“The research took about two years to complete. It was an extensive process as not much is available about the man. A handful of information is available online. But one has to read details about other individuals and then derive matter about the man” said the director.
Kinjal plays Hiralal Sen in the film. “It was a great experience working in the film. When I was told that I will be playing this role, I naturally began to search about Hiralal Sen, but nothing much was available. So I asked the director who said that research has been done on the man. He asked me to send questions and he would send me answers accordingly. That helped me a lot to understand the person that Hiralal Sen was and portray him well on screen” said the actor.
Arna plays Amarendranath Dutta in the film. He is the person who asked Hiralal Sen to shoot his work at his theatre. “When I began to research about Hiralal Sen and his associates, I learnt so much. It is a like a treasure trove waiting to be discovered. Yes information may be a bit hard to find. But if you keep on looking for it, you will find some great facts”.
The story and screenplay is by Arun Roy. The cinematographer of the film is Gopi Bhagat. The music has been composed by Mayukh- Mainak.
The cast of the film consists of Saswata Chatterjee, Kharaj Mukherjee, Shankar Chakraborty, Arna and others.
