After directing the web series Mandaar, Anirban Bhattacharya will now direct his debut feature film ‘Ballavpurer Roopkotha’. The film will be released under the banner of SVF. Mandaar has received positive feedback from the audiences and critics alike.

The film is based on Badal Sarkar’s very popular drama piece ‘Ballavpurer Rupkotha’.

‘Ballavpurer Roopkatha’ is a quirky horror-comedy that revolves around the eccentric story of Ballavpur Rajbari’s last descendant. The film will bring in an evolution in the kind and quality of Bengali films that are slated to be produced in the coming years.

The music of the film will be composed by Subhadeep Guha and Debraj Bhattacharya.  Ballavpurer Roopkotha is written by Anirban Bhattacharya himself along with Prateek Dutta. The cinematography will be handled by Soumik Halder.

‘Ballavpurer Roopkatha’ will tell the story of the almost crumbling Rajbari of Ballavpur which only has two men living- The last descendant of the Ray dynasty – Bhupati Ray and his inherited menial Manohar. The ’Dynasty’ merely exists as there is no trace of wealth except this ruin. Both the dwellers are overburdened with heavy debts. One day they get a proposal of selling off their property. What happens next?

Anirban Bhattacharya said that he has always been fond of horror comedies/ satires since childhood. Though there are amazingly great horror comedies made in Bengal, the number is not enough. ‘Ballavpurer Roopkotha’ will be light-hearted yet surprising.
