100 Years Of Gourkishore Ghosh Organized To Celebrate 100th Birthday of Gourkishore Ghosh
The Gourkishore Ghosh Centenary Celebration Committee organized the inaugural event, “100 YEARS OF GOURKISHORE GHOSH,” at the Rabindra Sadan to commemorate the late journalist, author, and activist’s 100th birthday. After Smt. Priyangee Lahiry performed the opening song, and Dr. Amit Roy, the committee’s president delivered the welcome speech.
Bratya Basu, the Minister for Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, released a commemorative volume on this occasion, with writings on the late Gourkishore Ghosh by eminent personalities from academia, intellectuals, authors, and acquaintances having first-hand knowledge about his life and work.
The ‘Gourkishore Ghosh Centenary Lecture’ was delivered by Prof. Sugata Bose, Director, Netaji Research Bureau, and Gardiner Professor at Harvard University. The noted social activist Smt. Medha Patkar spoke on ‘In Search of Humanity’.
The program concluded with the screening of ‘Rupadarshi’, a documentary film on the late Gourkishore Ghosh with the use of his well-known pen name as its title, directed by the renowned film director Saibal Mitra.
The Gourkishore Ghosh Centenary Celebration Committee intends to hold a closing ceremony on June 20, 2023, along with a seminar or debate on a relevant topics, such as Democracy and the Indian Constitution, Free Speech and Information Access, Sedition Laws, etc., and, if possible, earlier during the Kolkata Book Fair 2023 in cooperation with its organizers.
