The Kolahal Theatre Workshop was founded with the intention of creating therapy-based programs for socially disadvantaged groups. In their earlier efforts, they addressed the LGBTQ population, Kolkata’s female sex workers, and drug users.

Kolahal Theatre Workshop organized a fashion show in association with Piyal Banerjee, a fashion designer of Sew In Style.

Eminent celebrities like Pooja Karmakar, Ananya Bhowmik, Avijit Roy, Ananya Roychowdhury, Jahar Das, Sujata, Kingshuk Acharyya, Sunita Sen, Tuban Chakraborty, Soma Chakraborty, Alok Sanyal, Sayani Palit, Jhooma, Nigel Akkara, Aritra Mukherjee, Richa Sharma, Priyanka Sarkar, Prajna Dutta, Soumili Ghosh, Rishi Chakraborty, Swarnali Sarkar, Durnibar Saha, ChirasreeSarkar, Rajoshree De, Devlina Kumar, Om Sahani walked the ramp with the intellectually disabled children and young adults of Mentaid.

This is the first time a fashion walk was organized in Kolkata with autistic and intellectually disabled children and young adults.

The Kolahal Theatre Workshop will be presenting their 5th production named “Chup Chap Charlie”, with the autistic and intellectually disabled children and young adults of Mentaid.

Renowned actors like Om Sahani, Devlina Kumar, and Nigel Akkara will be also participating in the play.

The music for Chupchap Charlie has been composed by Prajna Dutta.

Singers Iman Chakraborty, Durnibar Saha, Shovon Ganguly, Timir Biswas, Sayani Palit, Shri B.D Sharma, Nigel Akkara, and adults with intellectual disabilities have sung for the play.

Renowned poet Subodh Sarkar has written a poem for the play which will be recited by renowned elocutionist Bratati Bandyopadhyay exclusively for the play Chupchap Charlie.

Mentaid

Piyal provided the costumes for the play “Chupchap Charlie”.

The play is being jointly directed by Nigel Akkara and Jahar Das.

The script is written by Sharbani Ghosh Basu and Ipsita Mukherjee.

The fashion show by The Kolahal Theatre Workshop helped in the inclusion of intellectually disabled children and young adults in the mainstream of society.
