SMPAi will be presenting a play Chingaari, directed by Arna Mukhopadhyay. A press meet was organized to announce this play. The announcement was done in the presence of Samrat Mukherji, Pratik Karmakar, Arna Mukhopadhyay, Sanjeev Tiwari and Rik Basu.

The idea behind Chingaari came to Samrat Mukherji when his friends in different colleges could not attend classes due to college politics. This was rampant in the 1970’s. The play will be promoted via a music video. This is a first for a promotion of a play in India.

“I have sung a rap for the first time in my life. Earlier I used to think that singing a rap song is easy. It is like reciting poetry. But that is not the case. You cannot take a breath between the lines. You have to say it in one breath which is a difficult thing to do. I have given my best and I hope that the audience likes it” said Samrat Mukherji.

Arna Mukhopadhyay who is directing the play had worked with Samrat Mukherji earlier while directing the play Debipokho. He liked him as a person and this led to hi getting associated with SMPAi for this project.

The story, script and screenplay are by Samrat Mukherji. The music is by Pratik Karmakar while Sanjeev Tiwari has penned the lyrics. Rik Basu has sung the song for this play.

Students of the institute who are pursuing courses in acting will be seen in this play and also in the video.

The first show of the play will be on 11^th October at Gyan Manch from 5 pm.
