St. James’ School Announces New Campus At Behala
In the august presence of Rt. Revd Dr. Paritosh Canning, Chairman of St. James’ School, Dr. T.H. Ireland, School Principal/Secretary, Mr. Raghav Naik, Secretary of Oxford Mission Trust, and other eminent guests, St. James’ School announced their new campus in South Kolkata at Behala at the site of Oxford Mission School. The dignitaries also announced expansion plans for their new college at the current school site.
At the Board of Governors Meeting on 26th September 2022 it was decided that St. James’ School would open a New Branch in April 2023. The School Board in the meantime was in discussion with Oxford Mission Trust, who had an “Indenture of Agreement” to allow a portion of their property for the purpose of a school.
St. James’ School approached the Oxford Mission Trust with a proposal to start a new branch of our school in their South-East section (about 12 Bighas). The St. James’ School’s request was accepted by Oxford Mission Trust.
In the Academic Session in April 2023, St. James’ School will begin classes in the New Branch from Classes Nursery to class VII, at 52, Diamond Harbor Road, Post Office – Thakurpukur, Kolkata – 700 008, named St. James’ School.
Speaking at the event, Dr. T. H. Ireland said “It is the need of the hour and hence we will be having a co-ed school at the new branch. We have a long tradition as a boy’s school and hence we thought of ushering in a new tradition for our school”.
St. James’ School will work independently under the Board of Governors, St. James’ School, 165 A.J.C. Bose Road, Kolkata – 700 014. Music & Games will be treated as compulsory subjects in all classes. All the students of Oxford Mission School will get admission into St. James’ School (New Branch).
St. James’ School will bear the expenses of Education, Boarding and Lodging, and Medical care of the Oxford Mission Boarding / Hostel.
All the existing Staff of the Oxford Mission School will be absorbed by St. James’ School (New Branch). And Oxford Mission Staff payment will be borne by the School, St. James’ School.
St. James’ School will bear all the expenses of Maintenance and Security.
The New Branch of St. James’ School will be governed by the Constitution of St. James’ School, 165 A.J.C. Bose Road, and the Board of Governors, Secretary, and Bursar will be the same in both Institutions.
With the opening of this new branch, students in Behala and adjoining areas will be able to get access to better education at a prestigious school.
