Amway India, one of the Biggest Direct Selling FMCG firms in the nation, recently presented the outstanding results of its nutrition program, Power of 5, as part of its ongoing efforts to build a healthy nation and to emphasize its focus on treating childhood malnutrition in the country. Almost 90,000 people, including moms, carers, and 26,000 children, benefited from the initiative over a two-year period by receiving nutrition instruction. 7,000 of these 26,000 kids received Nutrilite Little BitsTM, a novel micronutrient supplement that supplies daily needs of critical vitamins and minerals to assist treat micronutrient deficiency conditions like anemia.

In order to improve the nutritional status of communities, particularly mothers and carers of children under six years old, Amway India established the highly regarded community-based program “Power of 5” in 2018. The project’s impact report for Haryana and West Bengal highlighted a significant decrease in the rates of underweight, stunting, and wasting in children as well as a rise in hemoglobin (Hb) levels that caused almost 350% of those with iron deficiency to move into the normal category (compared to baseline).

PROGRAM INFO& IMPACT:

  • As part of the initiative, 26000 children from Kolkata, West Bengal, and Nuh district, Haryana, were identified, and their mothers and carers received nutrition education over a time span ranging from 12 to 24 months.
  • Of these, 7000 kids—6000 from Nuh and 1000 from Kolkata—between the ages of 3 and 6 who needed close intervention for iron deficiency were given regulated micronutrient supplements called Nutrilite Little Bits for more than six months. The youngsters significantly improved as a result of this all-encompassing approach to nutrition instruction and supplements.
  • The final results of the study revealed astonishing progress, with an increase in the number of children (compared to baseline) of over 350%, iron deficiency moving into the normal range, and average hemoglobin (Hb) levels rising by 23% (from 8.89 g/dL to 10.93 g/dL) and 10% (from 10.54 g/dL to 11.55 g/dL) in Nuh and Kolkata, respectively.
  • In Kolkata, the number of kids with severe wasting plummeted by 100%, while the number of kids with severe stunting dropped by a staggering 52% in Nuh.

Amway’s Power of 5 effectively takes care of a child’s nutritional requirements for the first 1,000 days of life. The campaign provides comprehensive solutions to raise awareness and put educational interventions into place at the local level to address nutrition disparities in children. The initiative is currently running and helping around 2,64,000 people, including 45,600 children, in Sohna, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai.
