In honor of the centennial of the renowned Bengali actor Uttam Kumar, the Tollygunge Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Cultural & Welfare Society has announced a number of special events, including a lavish celebration at Nazrul Mancha on September 3.

Members of the recently established Uttam Kumar Birth Centenary Committee and representatives of the cultural fraternity attended the press conference where the announcement was made. The initiative seeks to honor the Mahanayak’s lasting legacy and introduce a new generation to his contributions to Bengali cinema and Kolkata’s cultural identity.

The Society has been commemorating Uttam Kumar‘s birth anniversary on September 3 with cultural events and welfare programs for over ten years. As part of its long-standing dedication, the organization has also provided medical and financial assistance to elderly and financially struggling film technicians who had worked closely with Uttam Kumar and made significant contributions to the Bengali film industry.

Prominent figures from a variety of fields have joined the Centenary Committee. Actor Kushal Chakraborty is involved in the initiative, along with well-known singers and musicians like Subrata Dutta and Srikanta Acharya. Tanmoy Kar will serve as moderator.

“Uttam Kumar was not only a legendary actor but also a central figure in the lives of many people who worked with him. For many years, the Society has supported the elderly and troubled technicians connected to Uttam Kumar who are currently dealing with medical costs and financial challenges. We will provide them with financial aid and healthcare support this year as well. It is our duty to make sure that the people who helped create that golden age of film are not overlooked,” said Srikanta.

“Uttam Kumar’s legacy belongs not only to cinema but to the cultural soul of Bengal. His centennial is a momentous occasion to honor his contributions and guarantee that his principles and creative legacy will continue to motivate future generations,” said Tanmoy Kar, Secretary of the Centenary Committee.

A unique cultural program honoring Uttam Kumar will be part of the September 3 celebration. It will include performances, remembrance, and a tribute to the individuals who shaped the Mahanayak era.
