Workshop on Role of Media In Disaster Preparedness and Response
A media training workshop was organized to discuss about the role of media in disaster preparedness and response.
Simanchal Patnaik, Riska and Resilience Officer, UNICEF Office for West Bengal, Subhajyoti Ghosh, BBC, Moumita Dastodar, Communication Specialist, UNICEF Office for West Bengal and others were some of the key speakers for the workshop.
Some of the basics of DDR discussed include hazard, disaster, disaster risk, vulnerability and capacity. Some of the disaster types include natural and man-made.
Flood is one of the major disasters in West Bengal. Cyclone and drought are the other disasters which cause much damage in West Bengal.
Children and women are the most vulnerable during any kind of disasters.
While discussing about disaster preparedness and the role of media, it was highlighted that journalists should focus on working together and not going after exclusive stories. In that way they can save themselves and also cover the disaster in a better manner.
