GD Hospital’s Special Initiatives For Diabetes Awareness
In honor of World Diabetes Day 2024, the GD Hospital & Diabetes Institute organized a series of initiatives aimed at improving diabetes awareness and supporting preventative measures. In keeping with this year’s theme, GD Hospital pledged to empower and uplift the community by providing accessible health care, education, and special events to raise diabetes awareness.
From November 11th to November 15th, GD Hospital held a “Mobile Instant Diabetes Check” throughout Kolkata, visiting key areas including railway stations, bus stops, and busy crossroads from Shyambazar to Gariahat. This effort provided quick diabetes screening to the general public, with a focus on the average man. GD Hospital’s goal with this endeavor was to promote early detection and raise awareness about the significance of regular monitoring.
A major highlight of the week’s festivities was the Continuing Medical Education (CME) session hosted by GD Hospital at the Hotel Kenilworth in Kolkata, which brought together experts, medical professionals, and community health leaders. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Sukumar Mukherjee, Chairman of GD Hospital & Diabetes Institute. It featured distinguished speakers, including Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, Consultant Endocrinologist at GD Hospital, and Dr. Shaibal Chakraborty, Chief Medical Advisor.
The CME included an in-depth discussion of diabetes care, the latest breakthroughs in therapy, and preventive measures, followed by a formal celebration with GD Hospital’s consultants, residents, trade doctors, and leadership, including CEO Ms. Musrefa Hossain.
On the nights of November 13th, 14th, and 15th, the hospital’s main building was lit up in blue as a visual representation of their support for World Diabetes Day. Additionally, on November 14th, the hospital’s premises, including the welcome, OPD rooms, and front office, were adorned with blue and white balloons, posters, and standees commemorating World Diabetes Day. On this particular day, GD Hospital also handed diabetes-friendly sweets to in-patients and their families, reminding them that diabetes isn’t a death sentence for foodies, but rather a matter of making conscious healthy choices. Senior consultants at GD Hospital provided meaningful messages on diabetes awareness through videos shown on the hospital’s internal TV network and shared on social media channels.
The team created an animated audio-visual presentation to educate the public about the importance of diabetes awareness, which was distributed to all visitors on World Diabetes Day.
Staff from the front office, operations teams, residents, and doctors all took part in the day’s activities, wearing unique World Diabetes Day 2024 badges to show their dedication.
