At the 48th International Kolkata Book Fair, the West Bengal Commission for Women hosted an informative press conference to highlight their forthcoming events and projects throughout the Book Fair days.

Throughout the Book Fair, the Commission will provide interactive panel discussions, workshops on women’s rights, mental health awareness sessions, and exhibitions featuring women-centric literature and art, among other events. The programs seek to involve guests and promote discussion on important topics impacting women in contemporary culture.

On 31st January 2025, inmates from Bankura Jail showcased special prose & poetry at the pavilion.

Sanjay Sen, a famous football player, will be felicitated on February 1st. Kakoli Kundu, the officer in charge of the women’s cell at the Howrah Police Station, will speak on the experience of trafficked women on February 2nd. On February 6th, rescued girls will participate in a cultural ceremony overseen by Kolkata Songbed, and on February 7th, renowned singer Iman Chakraborty will be felicitated. On February 8th, a group of blind women will perform a play called Onno Desh, and Kohinoor Sen Barat and his team will close out the day with their presentation, “Esho Basanta Esho”. On one of the days of the expo, the Women’s Commission’s magazine, Nari Kontho, will also be introduced.

This program is launched and people from all walks of life are connected at the International Kolkata Book Fair. We hope that many visitors will stop by the stall to participate in the various events we have planned for the fair to inspire, engage, and motivate our female workforce” said Leena Gangopadhyay, Chairperson of the West Bengal Commission for Women.

The West Bengal Commission for Women extends an invitation to all Kolkata Book Fair visitors to stop by their booth and take part in events that support empowerment, inclusivity, and awareness.
