To celebrate the unifying power of love, Britain’s railway teams up with Yash Raj Films, India’s largest film production business, for a special UK-India cultural event called Railway 200, which will commemorate the modern railway’s 200th anniversary in 2025.

In 2025, YRF will commemorate the 30th anniversary of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, also known as DDLJ, which is among the highest-grossing Hindi films in Indian cinema history. For South Asians and Indians around the world, DDLJ is a significant milestone in pop culture. It was filmed throughout the United Kingdom, notably at the famous King’s Cross Railway Station, where Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, the movie’s main couple, first met and fell deeply in love!

In recognition of the romance of train travel, Britain’s railway and YRF have announced their cultural partnership as part of Valentine’s Day festivities. In the UK, YRF is presently creating Come Fall in Love: The DDLJ Musical (CFIL), a musical adaptation of DDLJ. On May 29, 2025, the musical will debut at the Manchester Opera House. It will continue until June 21, 2025.

With interactive activations planned at Manchester and London Railway stations, Britain’s Railway and YRF will commemorate Come Fall in Love: The DDLJ Musical, which demonstrates how love can unite cultures.

The original director of DDLJ, Aditya Chopra, is directing the English-language musical Come Fall in Love. It centers on Simran, a young British Indian woman who is arrangedly married to a family friend in India. But when she develops feelings for a British man named Roger, the story becomes more complicated.

There will be eighteen English songs in the production’s original score. The CFIL core team is a true fusion of East and West! Nell Benjamin (Mean Girls, Legally Blonde) wrote the book and lyrics, while Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani composed the music.

In addition, the creative team consists of casting director David Grindrod for Grindrod Burton Casting, scenic designer Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), co-choreographer for Indian dances Shruti Merchant (Taj Express), and choreographer Rob Ashford (Disney’s Frozen).

Since its 1995 premiere, DDLJ has been showing nonstop in Mumbai, making it the longest-running film in Indian cinema.
