Sonar Tori- A Fantastic Tribute To United Culture & Heritage

Techno India Group, in partnership with Namrata Weaves, organised “Sonar Tori – Bengal Immersion: Drapes, Delights, Dialogues” to celebrate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore‘s 164th birthday. The event was a day-long experiential tribute that united community, culture, and heritage. An immersive daylong celebration that combines heritage crafts, storytelling, and mindful traditions in honour of Tagore’s vision of unity, humanism, artistic excellence, and cultural unity.
Prof. Manoshi Roychowdhury, Co-Chairperson, Techno India Group, inaugurated the event. It was attended by Mr Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr Qin Yong, Chinese Deputy Consul General, Mr Joydip Karmakar, Shooter, Mr Ashok Vishwanathan, Actor & Film Director, Ms Madhumanti Maitro, Elocutionist, Mr Satrajit Sen, Director, and Ms. Namrata Mitra, Founder, Namrata Weaves.
A traditional “Boron” (welcome) kicked off the day, establishing the mood for an exploration of Bengal’s rich cultural tapestry. A guided tour of Bengal’s textile heritage, showcasing carefully chosen draperies and weaves, was one of the highlights.

Among the carefully chosen activities for the day were:
- Using Indian textiles for styling and drapery, under the direction of Namrata Weaves, highlighting the complexities of traditional textiles.
- Engaging in hands-on traditional Bengali activities such as Alta application, Alpona art, Mala Gaatha (making garlands), and Paan decoration.
- Preserving memories through carefully chosen photo areas to capture the lively moments.
- Enjoying a traditional Bengali meal while listening to TIGPS educators share the origins of each dish.
- Participating in CozyAdda Sessions, where guests engaged with notable figures from the fields of academia, the arts, and textiles.
A rich, instructive, and joyful journey through Bengal’s living traditions was ensured by each activity, which was led by the teachers of Techno India Group Public School (TIGPS) and included a musical performance by the Techno Main Saltlake students.

Sonar Tori-Bengali Immersion: Drapes, Delights, Dialogues was a cultural and educational project that reflected Techno India Group’s dedication to developing well-rounded, culturally aware students who can creatively and empathetically preserve the richness of Indian heritage.
