Dr. Ansu Sen, Senior Consultant in Neurology at Manipal Hospitals, Salt Lake, hosted and curated an emotional program to commemorate World Music Day, combining the science of healing with the therapeutic value of music. The hospital will soon offer music therapy to patients battling neurological disorders in honor of the healing power of music. The celebration highlighted how rhythm, tone, and harmony can become effective allies in treatment and recovery by bringing together neuro patients, caregivers, physicians, and musicians in a poignant session. Renowned singer Indrani Sen and celebrated musician Shamik Pal graced the event, offering poignant insights on the therapeutic power of music.

Understanding how rhythm, sound, and melody can aid in neurological recovery makes a music therapy program a major step toward holistic healing. Music therapy has been shown to improve cognitive processing, speech, and language function in stroke patients, gait and balance in Parkinson’s patients, and symptoms of depression and agitation in Alzheimer’s patients, all of which have strong clinical evidence supporting their claims. It helps patients with chronic neurological diseases improve their quality of life by promoting socialization and emotional resilience.

Indrani Sen said, “Music has the extraordinary ability to reach places within us that words cannot.” Music therapy can be a lifesaver for people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, or chronic neurological conditions. The World Health Organization estimates that more than 56 million Indians suffer from depression. A prompt and considerate step toward integrated mental health care is this initiative by Manipal Hospital Salt Lake”.

With this initiative, the hospital hopes to create a space where healing touches the heart and goes beyond medicine. Music therapy is a complementary therapy that can significantly accelerate the overall healing process. It is not a replacement.
