Manas Mukul Pal, after his film Sahaj Paather Gappo, announced his next film Chandikatha.

The story, which is set in a rural village in the Murshidabad district in the early 1950s, centers on the lives of two teenage boys. One is a member of the Muchi (tanner) community (played by Samiul Alam), and his only friend from the Dom community (played by Nur Islam). Their friendship endures despite the harsh social mores of their era, which uphold untouchability and enduring caste distinctions.

The story follows their valiant efforts to face the brutality of some heinous ideologies and get past social barriers stemming from hypocrisy, prejudice, and exploitation by upper caste groups—and sometimes by members of their communities. Their unselfish love and steadfast relationship are a potent example of human dignity, dispelling social stereotypes and promoting equality.

The narrative emphasizes themes of social injustice, perseverance in the face of hardship, and the human spirit’s unwavering pursuit of justice and fraternity through their hardships and sacrifices. In the midst of a divided and superstitious society, it is a moving depiction of hope, resilience, and the transformative power of love.

The cast of the film consists of Nur Islam and Samiul Alam.

The release of Chandikatha is set on the eve of the tenth anniversary of Sahaj Paather Gappo.
