Calcutta Boys’ School celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ and the school’s 148 years of service under His guidance with a joyous Christmas Cantata event.

To seek God’s blessings for the organization and its community, the event started with a somber call to worship. His Grace Dr. C. Selvin, Chairman of the CBS Group of Schools and Bishop of the Lucknow Episcopal Area of the Methodist Church in India, officiated over the event.

Eminent guests who graced the occasion, were MP Mr. Sudip Bandyopadhyay, MLA Mrs Naina Bandyopadhyay, MLA Mr Manoj Tiwari, MLA Mr Swarna Kamal Saha,  Mrs Lovely Shanti Selvin,  President of the Regional Deaconesses Conference,  Dr. Maria Fernandes, Vice Chair of the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation, Mr. Kaushik Saha, IAS, and Mr. Gerry Arathoon, former CE&S, CISCE.

The school choir sang heartfelt performances of “First Noel” and “Born to bring us joy” after the dignitaries ceremoniously lit the Christmas tree. Following that, students from the Sonarpur, Beliaghata, and Main campuses presented “The Promise” (‘Echoes of the Promise’ by Sonarpur, The Promise Divine by Beliaghata, and “Fulfilment of the Promise” by the Main Campus), reminding the audience of the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. These musical enactments of the nativity spread the message of Hope and Joy.

“Today’s program is a joint effort of the Calcutta Boys’ group of schools. Regardless of our religious affiliation, we celebrate Christmas to spread its joy. Our goal with this program is to promote harmony and peaceful coexistence among everybody,” said Principal and Secretary Mr. Raja McGee.

Students reaffirmed their dedication to their alma mater as the performance came to an end with the singing of the CBS anthem. The sharing of light from the Christ Candle represented the dissemination of Christian principles, education, and the gospel.

A fellowship supper, where visitors and school community members came together to celebrate the joy and spirit of the Christmas season, marked the conclusion of the evening.
