In a significant step toward addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by women in contemporary society, Woodlands Hospital recently organized a high-profile seminar at the prestigious Calcutta Club. The event, titled Empowerment of Women and Holistic Health, brought together a diverse panel of achievers spanning different generations to discuss professional success, financial independence, and the often-neglected aspect of female well-being.

The seminar was marked by a unique bridge between eras, featuring veteran athlete and author Prochi N. Mehta alongside Gen-Z representative and actress Anusha Vishwanathan. The discussions delved deep into the “daily juggle” of working women—balancing the distinct pressures of home and office environments—while navigating issues of self-reliance and entertainment.

Dr. Priyanka Behl, Medical Director of Woodlands, set the tone with an insightful welcome address. The keynote speakers shared powerful personal narratives:

  • Prochi N. Mehta: The first female president of the Calcutta Parsi Club and winner of 71 medals, Mehta recounted her lifelong struggle against conservative rituals within her community.
  • Dr. Medha Ghurgi: Regional Director of FHPL, emphasized the critical need for financial independence and the essential role of medical insurance in securing a woman’s future.
  • Rita Bhimani: A renowned PR expert and author, pointed out a poignant reality—women often neglect their own health while caring for their families, which frequently leads to delayed diagnoses of serious illnesses like cancer.

A highlight of the event was the presence of Kasturi Raha, the female president of the Calcutta Club. She shared her historic journey of contesting and winning an election in a 150-year-old institution traditionally dominated by men. Her message was simple yet profound: “Happiness in the present moment is the key to overcoming the past and securing future success”.

Adding to the inspiration, actress Anusha Vishwanathan urged every woman to carve out a distinct identity, while model and actress Richa Sharma shared her own professional experiences.

The session, moderated by Rupsa Dasgupta Ray, concluded with a vote of thanks from Sister Tinku Adhikari, Director of Nursing at Woodlands. The seminar served as a vital reminder that women’s empowerment is incomplete without prioritizing health and financial security.
