In April 2026, Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) confirmed that ITC Royal Bengal, Kolkata, had received the esteemed LEED Zero Water certification. According to the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Zero program, one of the most reputable sustainability frameworks in the world, this milestone places the upscale hotel in a select group of hotels worldwide that have attained net zero water consumption.

To confirm that a building has effectively met net zero goals for energy, carbon, water, or waste, LEED Zero is a strict addition to the well-established LEED framework. ITC Royal Bengal has achieved a remarkable feat for a full-service luxury hotel operating at scale in one of India’s most dynamic and bustling cities by demonstrating a complete balance between water consumed and water returned, as evidenced by its LEED Zero Water designation. Notably, the other famous ITC hotel in Kolkata, ITC Sonar, also received the LEED Zero Water certification in 2023, demonstrating the group’s ongoing dedication to environmental stewardship throughout its portfolio.

“This certification demonstrates our team’s steadfast dedication to Responsible Luxury. Sustainability is a way of life at ITC Royal Bengal, not just an objective or mandate” said Gaurav Soneja, Cluster General Manager, ITC Royal Bengal & ITC Sonar.

This accomplishment is a potent illustration of ITC Hotels’ dedication to sustainability, which goes beyond ambition to produce tangible, quantifiable results.

With ITC Royal Bengal’s certification, ITC Hotels now has thirteen prestigious properties in its LEED Zero Water portfolio, spanning ITC Gardenia (Bengaluru), ITC Mughal (Agra), ITC Sonar (Kolkata), ITC Rajputana (Jaipur), ITC Maurya (New Delhi), ITC Kohenur (Hyderabad), ITC Maratha (Mumbai), ITC Grand Chola (Chennai), ITC Grand Bharat (Gurugram), ITC Narmada (Ahmedabad), Sheraton New Delhi, and Welcomhotel Bhubaneswar.

As acknowledged by the USGBC, these hotels collectively demonstrate ITC Hotels’ steadfast commitment to guiding the hospitality industry toward a more sustainable future.
