Ayna is a recent addition to the world of Bengali music videos. The music video, which was directed by Ratool Mukherjee, features actress Sumana Das and singer Silajit in entirely different personas.

Ayna is more than just a music video; it tells a tale of mental collapse, self-discovery, and the internal struggle of a person caught between illusion and reality. Speaking about the song, Silajit revealed that it was never intended. Rather, it emerged from profound emotional instability and psychological devastation.

He disclosed that everything around him, including conversations, people, memories, and even his own reflection, started to seem surreal during one of the darkest times in his life. A video for his old song Brishti Ashbe Majhrate was being discussed at the time with director Ratool Mukherjee. But the song’s emotional tone was no longer appropriate for his mental state.

At that moment, Ratool Mukherjee asked him to visualize broken glass, a dark room, and a broken heart. Silajit was struck like lightning by those three words. Using just an iPhone and GarageBand, Ayna was fully recorded that evening, and the following day, filming got underway.

“Ayna is not a love story. It tells the tale of facing my darkest self,” said Silajit.

Additionally, he praised actress Sumana Das for defying expectations and playing such a daring and unusual character. Silajit also valued editor Ishan, the team’s enthusiasm, and Ratool Mukherjee’s unselfish assistance during the project.

“Ayna has been an extremely personal creative journey for me. I think this type of visual language has never been seen by Bengali audiences,” said the director.

He continued by saying that the music video was enhanced by the camera work of cinematographer Rohan Paul and the editing of editor Ishan. Ratool added that it was an exciting experience for him to work with visual effects professionally for the first time.

Ratool claims that this project will give viewers a completely new perspective on Silajit. He emphasized in particular the high-frame-rate rap scene in which Silajit had to perform at double speed, a technically difficult task that he masterfully completed.

Sumana Das, an actress, revealed that she had never previously worked on a rap music video. Because of the project’s unusual idea and her fascination with Ratool Mukherjee’s work, she accepted it. “The way I performed during the shoot and the way it is being presented on screen are completely different. Seeing myself in a new form excites me greatly,” said the actress.

She also commended Ratool Mukherjee’s composure, meticulous preparation, and lucid visual comprehension as a director. Sumana also gave Silajit’s performance in the video high marks.

Soumalya Mallik’s outstanding color grading has further enhanced the music video’s visual ambiance and psychological depth. His artwork enhances Ayna’s overall visual experience by masterfully capturing the layers of light and darkness, emotion, shadow, and psychological tension.

Ayna, which was just released on digital platforms, is already gaining recognition for its psychologically motivated visual storytelling, experimental presentation, and emotional depth. The project’s creators anticipate that younger audiences seeking out unusual and emotionally charged musical experiences will find great resonance with it.
