Eastern India’s First Pulsed Field Ablation Now At Narayana Hospital

By administering the first Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) in Eastern India to treat Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), one of the most prevalent and difficult cardiac rhythm disorders in the world, Narayana RN Tagore Hospital, Mukundapur, has accomplished a noteworthy milestone in cardiac electrophysiology. Renowned cardiac electrophysiologist Dr. Debabrata Bera and his team successfully performed the first PFA procedure in Eastern India at Narayana RN Tagore Hospital in Mukundapur, breaking new ground in the field of cardiac electrophysiology. Using this new technology, the PFA procedure took only 40 to 50 minutes, whereas traditional methods typically take up to 4 hours. Consequently, on the day of launch, five procedures could be safely finished in ten hours.
To provide patients with the disease with cutting-edge, minimally invasive, and safe AFib ablation, Narayana Health, the first facility in Eastern India to perform Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA), has integrated this platform with its distinctive Comprehensive AFib management program. This process is carried out by the Institute on well-known EP systems from companies like Johnson & Johnson, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and Abbott.
“This makes it possible for doctors to carry out procedures more accurately and effectively”. said Dr. Saroj Kumar Choudhury, an interventional cardiologist and electrophysiologist at Narayana RN Tagore Hospital in Mukundapur. He also stated that the technology is safe, quick, and compatible with both conscious and deep sedation, ensuring shorter hospital stays and even same-day discharge.
Pulsed Field Ablation uses short-duration electrical pulses to specifically target cardiac tissue that causes irregular heart rhythms, in contrast to conventional thermal ablation techniques that use heat or extremely cold temperatures to create lesions. This tissue-selective technique greatly reduced the possibility of harm to nearby structures like the pulmonary veins, phrenic nerve, and oesophagus, making the process safer and more effective.
With an emphasis on increased accessibility, Narayana Health provides PFA procedures for patients from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds, including hospital stays, for as little as Rs 2.5 lakhs, despite the need to import costly equipment and catheters.
