Renowned author and filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee is collaborating with debut director Khushal S. Rathore on an untold story of CA Devendra Jain, adapted from his book Common Aadmi.

The pre-teaser for Common Aadmi hints at an emotionally compelling and uplifting tale centered on an ordinary man who dares to dream beyond the confines of his situation. It was filmed beautifully by cinematographer Winston Joses across different regions of India.

Set in the 1980s, the film follows Devendra Jain, a humble man from Pink City, as he pursues his dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant. Like many men his age, Dev’s father hopes his son will seek a stable government position, guaranteeing a steady income and a foreseeable future. But Devraj takes a different route. Choosing to pursue his dream, even though it defied his father’s wishes, forever altered the direction of his life. Sometimes, the most extraordinary stories come from the most ordinary people.

Producer Aritra Das, who started his career in Mumbai in 2017 with the Hindi short film Cakewalk under Assorted Motion Pictures, is now launching his own production company, Aritra Das Creations, with Common Aadmi as his debut Hindi feature film, in collaboration with Nurture Rise Productions.

Filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee has joined the project as Creative Producer. “I am pleased that Ram Kamal has agreed to contribute his creative perspective to the project,” said Aritra.

 The film also marks the first time filmmaker Khushal S. Rathore is directing a film. Khushal has approached the film with great sincerity and commitment. Aritra adds that his grasp of the setting and dedication to the story have helped bring it to life on screen.

Mukherjee has maintained a creative collaboration with Das for ten years. Speaking about his new role, he said, “I have always accepted challenges in my professional career, and this project offered me an opportunity to explore a new role. My role was to creatively mentor debutant director Khushal S. Rathore and his team, making sure the visual palette and the story complemented each other seamlessly”.

The film marks the debut of Anujj Anil Sharrma and introduces Sreeja Dutta, with Rituparna Sengupta and Sonali Kulkarni making special appearances.
