Madhur Bhandarkar, a Padma Shri Awardee and National Award winner, is prepared to use his cinematic talent to tell the story of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee in his next film.

The Wives of Bollywood was the last film that the director completed.

Producer Aditya Kumar Halwasiya is supporting the movie, which is co-produced by AKH Ventures and Bhandarkar Entertainment.

The film, which is currently titled Syama: The Missing Chapter, seeks to powerfully and captivatingly present Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s life and legacy on the big screen.

During one of the most pivotal moments in India’s history, Dr. Mukherjee—a scholar, statesman, and ardent advocate for national unity—had a significant impact.

His journey was characterized by conviction, bravery, and tough political decisions, from his early days as the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta to his time in the first Cabinet of independent India under Jawaharlal Nehru.

His decision to leave the Cabinet, his ideological disagreements with the government, and his establishment of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 will all be covered in the movie. It will also go over his 1953 fight against Jammu and Kashmir’s permit system and the events leading up to his murder while in custody.

Syama combines the intensity of a political thriller with historical drama. The Missing Chapter aims to portray the tale of a guy who defied authority in order to uphold his convictions.

More than just a movie, it seeks to relive a significant period in India’s history and acquaint viewers with a historical person whose life, beliefs, and legacy still provoke discussion and introspection.

“Exploring Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s life for the first time as a filmmaker is both a challenge and demanding. I want to use Syama to portray a significant period in India’s history with integrity, tact, and a new viewpoint,” said director Madhur Bhandarkar.

The remaining specifics are yet unknown, but the movie will begin filming in 2027.
