A Great Union Of Fire & Earth At Sarvamangala 2026

Sarvamangala 2026 celebrated its fifth anniversary with the theme Dharagni, portraying the union of Earth and Fire in a harmonious creative partnership.
A multi-award-winning Bari Durga Puja, designed by the skilled spatial architect Oiendrila Ray, was held from October 17 to 21 at her Ballygunge home in Kolkata.

Sarvamangala examined the link between Earth and Fire, employing Bengal’s classic Terracotta and Dokra crafts to convey creative forces and depict them in this year’s Puja decoration.
The idea highlighted these two elements via traditional crafting methods. Earth was nourishment, grounding, and resilience, while Fire symbolized transformation, courage, and purification. Through Terracotta and Dokra, the theme traced the path from raw material to lasting form, placing Bengal’s craft traditions into the visual interpretation of the Puja.

Regarding the use of these crafts as an artistic platform, Creative Director Oiendrila Ray said, “We welcome the Devi each year with open hearts, carrying forward traditions that hold a special place in our lives. Sarvamangala honors Bengal’s rich craft traditions and the affection that binds us. It is also a deeply personal celebration, where friends and family gather together and welcome the Devi into their homes and hearts”.
The five-day festival showcased traditional Puja rituals and nightly cultural events. These featured a Padabali Kirtan performance by Surajit Sen, a classical music set by Srijan Chatterjee, Baul performances by Dipannita Acharya, Garba by Bhavika Popatt, Dhunuchi Naach, and a Daastan-e -Sarvamangala show by East India Daastango. The celebration program combined various cultural expressions.

A standout feature of Sarvamangala this year was the customised jewellery from the home-grown label Anki Buki Aditi, designed specifically for Maa Durga. Oiendrila’s curated jewellery pieces blend traditional form with modern mediums beautifully.
After five years, Sarvamangala united Durga Puja traditions, Bengal’s craft heritage, and cultural performances to showcase the depth of Bengal’s heritage.
