In a powerful demonstration of community solidarity and public health advocacy, the Ruby Cancer Centre—a unit of Ruby General Hospital—successfully organized a massive breast cancer awareness rally. The initiative aimed to reinforce a decade-long commitment to emphasizing early detection and timely treatment.

Beginning at Ruby General Hospital at 9:00 am, the walk drew over 350 participants. The diverse crowd included 15 resilient cancer survivors and their families, medical professionals, nursing students, and prominent public personalities, all marching together to promote proactive breast health.

Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers among women in India. Alarming statistics indicate a diagnosis every four minutes and a life lost every eight minutes. Rapid shifts in urban lifestyles have further accelerated this burden, yet a significant proportion of women continue to be diagnosed only at advanced stages. The rally served as a vital public reminder that while risk factors such as genetics, obesity, and lifestyle play a role, breast cancer can develop without any identifiable triggers.

Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes, emphasized the clinical team at Ruby Cancer Centre. Experts noted that warning signs—such as painless lumps, skin changes, nipple discharge, or alterations in breast shape—demand immediate medical evaluation. Consequently, the Centre strongly advocates for regular clinical breast examinations and mammography, urging women to understand their normal breast health and consult doctors promptly.

The event saw immense community support, attended by leading oncologists, clinicians, and renowned cultural icons and actors. Notable figures lending their voices to the cause included Phalguni Chatterjee, Sudeshna Roy, Chandan Sen, Arijit Dutta, Nandini Chatterjee, Vicky Nandi, Sree Bhattacharya, Aryuun Ghosh, Subhrajit Datta, Arindam Ganguly, Saikat Mitra, Soumitra Talapatra, Satrajit Sen, Abhimanyu Mukherjee, Anjan Prasad Majumdar, Prof. Amita Dutt, and Anilava Chatterjee, alongside sports star Dola Banerjee.

Since 2014, the Ruby Cancer Centre, in association with Ruby General Hospital and the Ruby Cancer Care & Research Foundation, has continuously driven public education campaigns. By uniting healthcare professionals, survivors, and public figures, the institution continues to deliver compassionate cancer care while building an empowered, cancer-aware society.
