The culinary landscape of Bengal is steeped in a rich history of unforgettable stories and timeless flavors. At the heart of this vibrant culture lies Strictly Delicious, a heartfelt book authored by Debaditya Chaudhury. Serving as a poignant tribute to heritage eateries that risk fading into the background of modern dining, this Bengal edition celebrates legacy, memory, and the enduring spirit of Kolkata’s legendary food culture. By documenting these iconic establishments and the passionate people behind them, the book ensures that these culinary institutions continue to inspire future generations, cementing Kolkata’s identity as a city of stories and nostalgia.

Taking this conversation beyond the written page, a lively adda explored a burning question for anyone connected to the city: Are Kolkata’s legendary eateries being overshadowed by new-age restaurants?

This thoughtful panel discussion brought together prominent cultural figures, including acclaimed writer, lyricist, and columnist Chandril Bhattacharya; National Award-winning actor Riddhi Sen; and actor, producer, and entrepreneur Ritabhari Chakraborty. The session was skillfully moderated by Debaditya Chaudhury himself—author, musician, and award-winning restaurateur—guiding the panel through a rich dialogue on food, changing lifestyles, and cultural legacy.

Sharing his personal connection to the region, Chaudhury said “Ever since childhood I have been a foodie by heart, and all the small shops and eateries across Bengal have helped in shaping me up. It is these very hidden gems that inspired me behind the making of Chowman, Oudh 1590, Chapter 2, Chairi & Company”.

He explained that the discussion, themed From Cabins to Cafés, explores the charming contrast between old-world cabins and contemporary food spaces.
