A Special Official Language Inspecton At IMU Kolkata

The First Sub-Committee of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language recently inspected the Indian Maritime University (IMU), Kolkata Campus, to assess the implementation of the Official Language Policy and the progressive use of Hindi in official activities.
The Parliamentary delegation was led by Shri Bhartruhari Mahtab, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Deputy Chairman of the Committee, and Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Convener of the First Sub-Committee. The delegation also included Shri Satyapal Brahmachari, Shri Kishori Lal Sharma, Shri Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, and other Hon’ble Members of Parliament and senior officers of the Committee Secretariat.
During the inspection, the Committee examined how IMU’s official language policy was being implemented. While appreciating the initiatives taken by the IMU Kolkata Campus to promote the progressive use of Hindi in official work, the Hon’ble members provided valuable guidance and suggestions for strengthening the use of the official language.

The inspection was attended by Dr. Malini V. Shankar, Vice Chancellor, Indian Maritime University; Dr. Rajoo Balaji, Pro Vice Chancellor; Shri K. Saravanan, Registrar; Rear Admiral (Retd.) Amit Bose, Director, IMU Kolkata Campus, along with other officers and staff of IMU.
IMU Kolkata Campus reaffirmed its commitment to the objectives of the official language policy, expressing its determination to further promote the use of Hindi in official correspondence, administration, and day-to-day operations while maintaining excellence in maritime education, training, and research.
