The 16th “Pandit A. Kanan and Vidushi Malabika Kanan Memorial Festival” commemorated the priceless contributions of the highly esteemed maestros. It was organized by Suromurchhana Kolkata and its international branch Suromurchhana US at Uttam Mancha in Kolkata.

All music enthusiasts and visitors to the city of pleasure were in for a treat as they were submerged in an ocean of melodic classical music renditions delivered by a variety of exponents in association with the Kolkata Society For Cultural Heritage. There were both rising stars and legends of Indian classical music in that bouquet.

The evening witnessed performances by Pandit Sanjay Mukherjee, Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar, Pandit Samar Saha, Pandit Tanmoy Bose, and Smt. Namami Karmakar.

The inaugural performance was a Tabla ‘Lahara’ by Sri Archishman Sinha Roy, Sri Arka Ghosh, Sri Anchit Majhi, and Sri Iraban Jha, four very young but promising students of Tabla exponent Pt. Tanmoy Bose. They were accompanied by Harmonium Player Sri Sajal Das. The rendition of Raag Multani by Kum. Shreya Gonugunta, winner of the Suromurchhana Talent Search Contest 2023 mesmerized the audience. Accompanying her were Sri Suprabhat Bhattacharjee on Tabla and Sri Jyotirmoy Banerjee on Harmonium. Tabla artiste Pt. Sanjay Mukherjee was then accompanied by Sri Hiranmay Mitra on Harmonium.

Smt. Namami Karmakar, the immensely talented disciple of Pt. Sanjoy Banerjee took the musical journey forward. She started her performance by singing Raag ‘Shyam Kalyan’. Smt. Namami Karmakar concluded her part by singing a bhajan composed by Saint Tulsidas Ji. Accompanying her were Tabla player Sri Bivash Sanghai and Harmonium Player Sri Jyotirmoy Banerjee.

The night ended with Pt. Sanjeev Abhyankar, a disciple of Pt. Yashraj.

The music lovers were in for a great treat with such amazing performances by eminent musicians.
