If he were still alive, Pt. A. T. Kanan, a legendary vocalist from south India who embraced Kolkata, the city, and its culture, would have commemorated his 101st birthday. Bidushi Malabika Kanan, Suromurchhana US and Suromurchhana Kolkata, paid tribute to Pt. A. T. Kanan. A cultural evening in Uttam Mancha was held in honor of his 101st birthday. Grammy-winning Mohan veena virtuoso Pt. Viswamohan Bhatt performed captivating duets with tabla master Pt. Bikram Ghosh.

Under the direction of renowned vocalist Pt. Sanjoy Banerjee, Suromurchhana is committed to promoting Indian classical music in India and abroad. Indian classical music is being made more widely known by Nomami Karmakar, a classical singer.

Young musicians like Dr. Debopam Goswami (vocal), Anjan Saha (sitar), and well-known musicians like Pt. Dhananjay Hegde (vocal), Subhajyoti Guha, & Somenath Roy (Tabla and Ghatam) were among the eminent musicians adorning the ceremony. The program drew to a close with a memorable performance by Grammy-winning Padmabhushan Pt. Viswamohan Bhatt, a legendary Mohan Veena virtuoso, and Pt. Bickram Ghosh.

Dr. Debopam Goswami opened the annual cultural evening with a performance, which was accompanied by Abhirup Roy on tabla and Anirban Chakrabarty on harmonium. Raga Multani was performed by vocalist Dr. Goswami, who then performed composition in Raga Gaur Sarang.

For Raga Bhimpalasi, Rupak Bhattacharjee played the tabla and Anjan Saha the sitar.

Raga Purya Dhanashri and a brief composition in the raga Durga were performed by renowned vocalist Dhananjay Hegde with the assistance of Soumen Sarkar on tabla and Hiranmoy Mitra on harmonium.

With rhythmic teental and adi taal, Subhajyoti Guha and Somnath Roy performed a mesmerizing tabla and ghatam duet for the audience. They were joined by Hiranmoy Mitra on harmonium.

Padmabhushan Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Mohan Veena), accompanied by master tabla player Pt. Bickram Ghosh was the event of the day that captivated the audience. A dhun from his Grammy Award-winning album was played after the Mohan veena virtuoso performed Raga Vishwa Ranjani.
