“Asur Deals With Art As Well As Friendship”- Director Pavel at Press Meet of Bengali Film Asur
Pavel’s upcoming Bengali film Asur stars Jeet, Abir Chatterjee and Nusrat Jahan in the lead roles. A press conference of the film was organized recently which was attended by the cast and crew of the film.
The film showcases the life of an independent artist Kigan who creates the tallest Durga idol. This leads to a huge crowd gathering and the situation goes out of control. The film also focuses on the friendship between three friends namely Kigan (Jeet), Bodhi (Abir) and Aditi (Nusrat). Aditi is the love interest of Jeet.
“With this film, Jeet da and Abir da will be opening the innings for Asur and I am the middle order. The film is a tribute to the eminent artist Ramkinkar Baij. Despite being a genius artist, Ramkinkar has largely remained unsung and even at times misunderstood. Whenever I make a film, I dedicate the film to some individual. The film is highly reliable on art. Through the film, I want to show the challenges that an artiste faces during his journey in life,” said the director.
Durga Puja attracts the largest number of people in Asia. No film has been made on the biggest art carnival in Asia- Durga Puja. And the director wanted to showcase the efforts that went behind the making of the Durga Puja. The Deshapriya Park Durga Puja was the only Durga Puja which was banned. That story has been picked as the story’s backdrop.
Bickram Ghosh has composed the music of the film. The music composer joked and said that he is the Sur in Asur. There are three songs in the film. The songs have a primal aspect to it.
Abir Chatterjee had earlier worked with Jeet in a film. However this was his first experience of working with Jeet as a maker. The actor praised Jeet and his team. This was also his first time of working with Pavel and the actor was full of praises for the young director and his vision.
Nusrat who plays Aditi said that it is rare that actresses are offered such meaty roles as she got to play in Asur. Like Aditi, Nusrat is also an art lover in real life.
Jeet who plays Kigan said “I don’t know what fun Pavel derived by making me look so ugly onscreen for this film. Abir looked so handsome in the film and I looked just ugly”.
Asur is releasing on 3rd January, 2020.
