Medica Group of Hospitals celebrated Breastfeeding Week by joining hands with UNICEF to empower working mothers. On 2nd and 3rd August, they organized a Kangaroo Mother Care Workshop followed by a Breastfeeding Workshop.

WABA or World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action launched Breastfeeding awareness to raise public support for breastfeeding due to declining rates and increase in infant mortality. World Breastfeeding Week is a collaboration between WHO, UNICEF, and WABA.

The theme in 2023 is Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a Difference for working parents. It highlighted the challenges faced by the working mothers.

Medica’s Department of Paediatrics highlights breastfeeding mothers. The hospital has a dedicated nursing area and a refrigerator for storage of breastmilk.

The speakers at the workshop highlighted that to support working breastfeeding mothers, there must be a shift in the global mindset. This is very essential. They face many challenges. However with awareness and proper education, one will be able to overcome these obstacles.

With proper handling and preservation of breast milk, working women can address this shortage.

With this new journey, women can embrace the beauty of breastfeeding and give their babies a great start in life.
