Chess Outreach Initiative To Educate Common People About Chess
Grandmaster and Arjuna Awardee Dibyendu Barua, Sanjoy Kumar Mitra, Managing Trustee and Chief Visionary of Mitra Charitable Trust, and others graced the announcement of the launch of Mitra Charitable Trust’s, Chess Outreach initiative in 23 districts of West Bengal.
The Chess Outreach Initiative is the brainchild of Sanjoy Kumar Mitra. Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha has joined hands with Sanjoy Kumar Mitra to turn this dream into a reality.
This ground-breaking project seeks to educate the general public about the fascinating game of chess, equipping players with a tactical and cerebral exercise that fosters critical thinking, focus, sportsmanship, and ultimately character development in today’s kids.
This year, 1150 chess sets and 230 chess clocks will be distributed to the 23 districts in a phased manner of 50 chess sets and 10 chess clocks for each district. The representatives from Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas will gather the materials directly from them. For the other districts, SBDS and MCT representatives will go to these places and distribute the materials.
Speaking at the press conference, Dibyendu Barua said “The state of chess in our state can grow quickly only when the districts can go to a satisfactory level. The districts still lack the funds needed to provide the equipment to the chess talents”.
For the first phase of the distribution program, they will visit the 5 districts of North Bengal namely Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar from the 4th to the 7th of April.
