The West Bengal government’s recent policy initiatives aimed at enhancing business ease, expediting project approvals, and bolstering the state’s investment climate have been warmly welcomed by CREDAI West Bengal, the state’s premier organization for private real estate developers. As the unified voice of organized, RERA-compliant developers, CREDAI West Bengal sees this reform initiative as a necessary and beneficial step toward improving West Bengal’s appeal and predictability as a real estate investment destination.

The real estate industry in West Bengal is the second-largest employer in the state after agriculture, bringing in over Rs 20,000 crore annually, supporting the livelihoods of 60 lakh people, and contributing Rs 7,500 crore to the state exchequer. Construction, related industries, banking and finance, and household consumption are all directly impacted by the sector’s health as a fundamental pillar of the state’s economy, and its sustained expansion is crucial to West Bengal’s overall economic momentum.

CREDAI has made it clear that its members are not involved in the 27 illegal projects that were recently discovered during the State Government’s special audit of under-construction developments. Non-compliant builders are not allowed to join CREDAI, and these “fly-by-night” operators damage the legitimate real estate industry’s reputation and finances.

Homebuyers are strongly encouraged to buy only from RERA-registered projects created by CREDAI member-developers, who are subject to both statutory compliance requirements and the association’s Code of Conduct.

Reversing the outward migration of skilled talent in Kolkata and throughout West Bengal requires planned urban development and real estate expansion. For the state to retain professionals and draw in new business and investment, it must have high-quality housing, commercial space, and contemporary urban infrastructure.

The state’s construction industry will resume thanks to the government’s proactive approach. This will greatly increase investor confidence, secure livelihoods for the large workforce reliant on this industry, and immediately benefit the extensive supply chain.
