Swami Vivekananda, Srila Prabhupada, and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose were all students of the Scottish Church College in North Calcutta. They were three excellent scholars and notable figures of the 20th century. They began to experience spiritual awakening and enlightenment while attending this college. They frequented the library and occasionally lost themselves in philosophy literature during their undergraduate years.  These facts were taken directly from the college.

The Scottish Church College has now made the decision to digitize the philosophy texts influenced by these three outstanding figures. ‘Darshan Eshana’ is the project’s name.

This initiative will receive technical and financial assistance from the Bhakti Vedanta Research Centre in Kolkata.

This digitalization effort was formally launched by the college’s principal, Dr. Madhumanjuri Mondal, at a gathering held in the library.  She said that the college library has more than 1000 rare philosophy works that have been kept intact since the college’s founding, or since 1830 AD.  The books affected by these individuals are getting worse over time. The idea to digitize all of these books has been in development for a while.  The college’s governing council just made the decision to launch this endeavor.  The project might now finally be finished. In response to this endeavor, the Bhakti Vedanta Research Centre, Kolkata, extended its hand of cooperation, which is very advantageous for the college and the students.

This effort may help to preserve important historical information.  The academic dean of the Bhakti Vedanta Research Centre in Kolkata, Sumanta Rudra, estimated that it would take close to eight months to digitize these 1,000 books.  The philosophy texts are being digitally converted as part of the project’s initial phase. Later on, they will collaborate with the college to digitize other valuable volumes.

In the future, these books will be accessible digitally on the college website.
