Diabetes continues to present a massive public health challenge across India, impacting millions of lives and carrying severe secondary health risks. Addressing this critical issue, the Sankara Jyoti Eye Institute (New Town) has announced a comprehensive one-month Diabetic Retinopathy Awareness Program starting July 31, 2026, aimed at educating the public about the vital importance of timely eye examinations for individuals living with diabetes.

The Growing Burden of Diabetic Retinopathy

India is home to over 100 million people living with diabetes, out of whom an estimated more than 21 million suffer from diabetic retinopathy.

Severe Risk of Vision Loss: Without timely screening and treatment, millions face the risk of serious vision loss.

The Silent Progression: In its early stages, the disease frequently progresses without any noticeable symptoms, making routine retinal screening essential for early detection and timely intervention.

Campaign Objectives: Through this initiative, the Sankara Jyoti Eye Institute seeks to raise public awareness, encourage regular medical routines, and ultimately reduce avoidable vision loss caused by diabetes.
