Director Soumodeep Ghosh Chowdhury’s short film Work In Progress is a silent film (with voice-over in English) of 13 minutes 46 seconds duration.

The story of the film is about an 85-year-old Gujarati lady who is deaf and blind from birth. She works hard to earn her bread by defying all her physical disabilities. Ever since her birth, she has been a burden to all her family members who had taken turns in keeping her with them.

Now, at 85, the cousins she resides with denies her food. She performs little household works like arranging clothes after they are washed. This is her regular work and this satisfies her as she believes that she deserves her food for the work she has been doing. She has been the same for ages, trying to find the meaning of life through her work. In an age where people get prone to laziness, she stands by her mind deciding to work, work and work until the end of her life.

The film has been edited by Anirban Maity and the cinematographer of the film is Shubhadeep Dey.

Due to lack of funds, the final cut of the film could not be done. However, despite everything, the film has been catching the eyes of the audience at the different festivals due to the content.

The short film recently won four awards at Garoa Awards Festival held in Brazil. It received the award for Best Documentary, Best Director, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography.

Apart from this, the film has also been sent to other film festivals where the film has been well appreciated. Some of the festivals where the film has been sent are Human Environment Care Awards 2020, Reels International Film Festival 2021, Gully International Film Festival 2021, Cult Movies International Film Festival 2021, 7^th Indian Cine Film Festival 2019, and many more.
