Man’s fascination with the tiger is ageless! Not only is this largest cat the most majestic, but it is also at risk of being extinct. While the number of tigers on the Indian subcontinent may have been lower, it was reportedly around 50,000 a century ago. With only 4000 left in existence and most of them living in India, awareness-raising and conservation initiatives have begun to show results. From 2010 onward, July 29 has been commemorated as “World Tiger Day” to raise awareness about the importance of tiger conservation. Many authors have written about this amazing creature.

A fascinating video named “Bagher Din – the Day of the Tiger” that elaborates on similar subjects was created by elocutionist Korak Basu and written by renowned poet Tanmoy Chakraborty. The images feature a selection of stamps and first-day covers designed by Jadavpur University student Srijon De Sarkar that depict the beautiful animal and extracts from Jim Corbett and others’ firsthand accounts of interactions with the wild. World Tiger Day, “Bagher Din – the day of the tiger” attempts to highlight awareness initiatives worldwide. On July 28, 2022, at 7 p.m., the documentary—which is being presented by Khukumoni Alta—will be posted to the Korak Basu Creations Facebook page.
