Doosra Has A Unique Mix Of Great Plot & Indian Cricket History

Director Abhinay Deo’s film Doosra, which premiered in theaters on October 23, is still being praised by audiences for its engaging plot and its unique mix of Indian cricket history with a personal story about finding oneself. Anil Kapoor and cricket star Rohit Sharma praised the film’s trailer, commending its vivid depiction of a memorable Indian cricket moment.
Set against the backdrop of India’s famous 2002 NatWest Final win against England, the film Doosra reimagines the cultural significance of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly’s iconic shirt-waving celebration from the Lord’s balcony. The movie turns that key moment in Indian sports history into a personal tale about bravery, standing out, and finding oneself.
Tara is at the story’s core, a young girl raised in a conservative home, searching for her position in a society ruled by customs. Feeling like an outsider among familiar settings, Tara starts to doubt the expectations placed on her. Watching Ganguly’s bold celebration on TV encourages her to discover her own voice and the bravery to defy convention, regardless of the outcome.
Anil Kapoor praised the trailer’s flawless mix of truth and imagination, calling it an impressive blend of two distinct realms. “I remember feeling elation from the historic victory at the Natwest Series, an occurrence that had never happened before. A whole generation now believes India can win anywhere against anyone. I am eagerly anticipating viewing the film” said Anil Kapoor.
Rohit Sharma also praised the trailer, recalling the extraordinary significance of that win.

Abhinay Deo characterizes Doosra as a narrative about a nation discovering its voice and a young girl finding herself. The film breaks away from traditional views of liberty, examining emotional freedom from strong social rules and expectations. It offers a modern view of the bravery required to challenge established norms.
Produced by Masha Sajdeh and Rohan Sajdeh, with Neeta Shah as co-producer, Doosra features a story and screenplay by Agnello Oswin Dias and an original score by Ram Sampat. The film stars Plabita Borthakur, Ankur Vikal, Samidha Guru, Tvisha Seema and Krishna Gokani.
Now showing in theaters, Doosra intertwines the nostalgia of a pivotal Indian cricket event with a timeless narrative about personal liberty, encouraging viewers to relive a victory that motivated many while contemplating the bravery required to uphold individual convictions.
