The press conference of the film Chhaad (The Terrace) was graced by director Indrani at 28^th KIFF.

The story revolves around Mitra, a schoolteacher who is passionate about writing and sketching. She gets an offer to write for a renowned local magazine. It is like a dream come true for her. However, the common terrace of her building is locked by the occupants. It poses a threat to her dreams and affects her writing. The film shows how the snatching of the terrace leads her to suffer mental and emotional crises.

The director revealed that it took her 15 years to make this film. “It took a long time to find a producer for the film. And I have lost track of the number of edits I have done to the script to make this film” said Indrani.

The producer of the film is National Film Development Corporation Limited India.

Indrani said “In today’s times, we do not get a terrace in our homes. As a result, people have less space where they can free their minds of tension and stress. This has led to many problems like stress, and depression among adults and kids alike. The importance of free space like a terrace is very important. It helps one to think and spend quality time alone. But with the passage of time, this is not at all possible now”.

The cinematographer of Chhaad is Subhadeep Dey.

The editing has been done by Amitava Dasgupta.

The music has been composed by Sourav Sarkar.

Paoli Dam will be seen in a pivotal role in the film.

Speaking at the press conference, the director said “The film is a slap on patriarchy. But this has not been done in the usual way. The treatment is different”.

Chhaad was part of the Competition on Indian Language Films.
