Fans of the renowned detective will be thrilled to know that AddaTimes unveiled the trailer for its upcoming web series Byomkesh Bakshi at Chaudhury & Co. with lead actors Gaurav Chakrabarty, Arna Mukhopadhyay, and Shruti Das. The series, which is directed by Aritra Sen, will begin to stream on AddaTimes on April 10.

The story, which takes place in 1964, just after the Sino-Indian War, explores a city struggling with an increase in crime and the covert spread of opium through Chinapara’s winding streets. The story starts with an enigmatic young man named Atul Mitra arriving in search of refuge after a mysterious murder occurs close to a men’s hostel. He finds a place with the aid of struggling writer Ajit, but the premises are shaken by another murder. Atul gradually reveals himself to be none other than the renowned detective Byomkesh Bakshi as the narrative progresses through Ajit’s perspective, assembling a convoluted web of criminal activity and drug trafficking.

The story, which is based on two classic tales, Satyaneshi and Arthamanartham, skillfully combines multiple mysteries set in ancient Kolkata. A second case involving the enigmatic death of wealthy contractor Karalibabu, who was discovered murdered in his mansion with a stitching needle embedded in his spinal cord, heightens the suspense. The investigation takes unexpected turns, challenging the very nature of truth and evidence, with several suspects among his bitter relatives.

“Byomkesh is a profound examination of human motivations, deceit, and morality rather than merely a detective tale. We wanted to recreate the essence of old Kolkata while presenting a layered narrative that keeps the audience guessing till the very end,” said director Aritra Sen.

The series features Gaurav Chakrabarty as Byomkesh, Arna Mukhopadhyay as Ajit, and Shruti Das as Satyabati.

Byomkesh Bakshi promises to provide an engaging cinematic experience that revisits one of Bengal’s most cherished literary characters in a new and captivating avatar on AddaTimes by fusing suspense, period drama, and psychological intrigue.
