Sanjhbati, the first venture of Bengal Talkies has been making news since its announcement. The trailer of the upcoming Bengali film was launched in the presence of director duo Leena Gangopadhyay and Saibal Banerjee, Dev, Paoli Dam, Atanu Raychaudhuri (owner, Bengal Talkies) and others.

Sulekha is a lonely and short tempered elderly woman who lives alone in Kolkata. Her son lives in London and is busy with his work. Hence he cannot meet his mother often. She is looked after by her caretakers Chandan and Fuli. Chana Babu, her neighbour is also her well wisher. The story revolves around this story.

Dev played the role of the anchor at the trailer launch event. The actor mentioned how he had to wait for a long time to meet the director duo. However he also mentioned that once the things were finalized, he understood that the project was happening seriously.

The cast of the film consists of Lily Chakraborty (Sulekha), Dev (Chandan), Paoli Dam (Fuli), Soumitra Chatterjee (Chana Babu), Santu Mukherjee, Sohini Sengupta, Sudip Mukherjee, Sayani Ghosh, Saptarshi Moulik and others in pivotal roles.

Speaking at the event, Paoli Dam said “The concept of the film drew me to the film. The cast is another aspect which made me say yes to the film. I and Dev have started our journey in films together and I was waiting to do a film with him. So when I got the role, I was happy that we will be doing a film together. This is also the first time I am playing a happy character. There are no layers to the character and this is a character that I have never done before”.

Dev also mentioned that he had to do nothing to portray Chandan in the film. “I used to sleep until the call for my shot came. When I woke, I usually had a sad face and that helped me to portray the character well. As far as working with Paoli is concerned, I had been her silent admirer and I have really appreciated the way she has come a long way from our starting days in the industry” said the actor.

Leena Gangopadhyay revealed that she had inhibitions initially when she was told that Dev was considered for the project. “However I can tell now after one year, that he had done a great work in the film. Had I not worked with him I would not have not understood how far an actor can go to break himself for a role!! We are relatively new directors and Dev had no reason to go to such extent for the film. He is an established star already. He still wants to learn. I am happy that I worked with him” said the director.

Raja Narayan Deb has composed the background music of the film.

The film is eyeing for release on 20^th December.
