“My Next Film Is On Pracheta Gupta’s Story Selenophobia”-Director Surajit Nag at 26th KIFF

Surajit Nag and Ujjwal Basu directed the film Michhil and this was screened at 26th Kolkata International Film Festival.

The story of the film is about Shreemoyee who is the only daughter of Chanchal and Sutapa Maitra. They are a middle-class family. Shreemoyee’s marriage is fixed with Topodhir, the son of Paritosh Chatterjee. Almost is everything fixed except the day of the wedding. Shreemoyee is found walking in a michhil (procession). This slights Paritosh’s parents who do not want their daughter-in-law to be involved in politics. They break off the marriage. What happens next?

Speaking at the event, Surajit Nag said “How a procession changes the life of a woman is what this story all about. This is based on a story by writer Pracheta Gupta. I read about the story in a magazine and was attracted to the story. The film had cinematic elements and hence he wanted to make it into a film”.

The producer of the film is Sekhar Das. The screenplay has been written by Surajit Nag and Ujjwal Basu. The music has been composed by Raja Narayan Deb.

The director said “I make films during the breaks that I get in between teachings like the summer holidays or the winter holidays. Hence the films I make need time to make take more time. The profession of teaching helps me to feed my family while making films is my passion”.

The cast of the film consists of Basabdatta Chattopadhyay, Phalguni Chatterjee, Rumki Chatterjee, and Saheli Goswami.

The director will be next making a film on another story of Pracheta Gupta,  Selenophobia and the name of the film has been titled Dui Chander Golpo.

The film is of 79 minutes duration. The makers are also thinking about re-releasing the film for a second time.
