The upcoming Bengali film O Abhagi is based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyaya’s short story ‘Abhagir Swargo’. The film has been written and directed by Anirban Chakraborty.

“Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay is my favorite author because he always packed a lot of information into a single line, and all of his stories and books could easily be turned into movie scripts. ‘ABHAGIR SWARGO’ is adapted from the movie ‘O ABHAGI.  In this movie, the unvarnished and stark reality of rural culture is depicted. Every audiovisual component has a distinct and experimental presentation and treatment. With Sarat Chandra’s creation of the major characters, the screenplay includes many other new central characters. The difficulty lay in coming up with something fresh without changing the core of the narrative” said the director.

Presented by Swabhumi Entertainment, the film is produced by Dr. Prabir Bhaumik.

The cast of the film consists of Mithila as Abhagi, Rj Sayan / Sayan Ghosh as Rasik, Subrata Dutta as Jamindar, Debjani Chatterjee as Ginni Ma, Rj Jinia as Tagor, Krishno Banerjee as Kesta, Sourav Halder as Kangali, Ishan Mazumder as Yamraj and others.

The screenplay is by Anirban Chakraborty.

The music has been composed by Mousumi Chatterjee.

The songs in the film have been sung by Rupankar Bagchi, Lagnajita Chakraborty, Animesh Roy (Bangladesh, Coke Studio Bangla), Chandrani Banerjee, and Anirban Roy Aakash.

The film is slated for release soon.
